first_img(AFP Photo/FABRICE COFFRINI) LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Jamaica’s double Olympic gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce shook off a sub-par performance at the Prefontaine Classic to blaze to victory in the 100 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet on July 5.The 32-year-old stormed to victory in 10.74 seconds to capture gold, much faster than the 11.39 she clocked when she finished seventh at the Prefontaine Classic in the United States a week earlier.Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith was a distant second in a season’s best 10.94, while Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast also posted a season’s best 10.93 to place third.Fraser-Pryce said she was delighted with her performance, especially considering her slow time at the Classic. “I came to Lausanne in a very happy state of mind despite a poor performance in Stanford. I am delighted with 10.74 today. Such ups and downs make sure that you do not take anything for granted and do not get complacent,” she said after her race.Fellow Jamaicans Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Ronald Levy copped bronze in their respective events.McPherson finished third in the women’s 400 meters in a season’s best time of 50.88 seconds, behind eventual winner Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain in a season’s best and meet record 49.17 seconds, with Niger’s Aminatou Seyni finishing second with a personal best and national record of 49.19 seconds.Levy clocked 13.25 seconds in the men’s 110m hurdles. The event was won by Spain’s Orlando Ortega in 13.05 seconds, with the USA’s Robert Best third in 13.11.last_img read more

first_img Betsson rolls out new Group Affiliates site August 7, 2020 Submit Affiliate concerns: Maintaining trust in the modern market July 9, 2020 Share Related Articles Rightlander tackles non-compliant affiliates with Fast Track report April 7, 2020 StumbleUpon Share Ahead of Betting on Sports 2017 (12-15 September), Bookies.com Managing Director Matthew Glazier, part of the ‘Super Affiliates’ session at next month’s event, spoke to SBC News about what he’s looking forward to at #boscon2017, where betting can work together more closely with sport and what sports partnership has stood out over the last 12 months.SBC: Why is it important for you to speak at Betting on Sports?MG: There are many affiliates and operators attending the conference. Having worked in both spheres, I can hopefully provide some insight for both panel discussions. Regarding Super Affiliates, there can be an in-depth discussion of the current affiliate landscape and an examination of the relationship between operators and affiliate partners. For the cricket panel discussion, we can look at the recent Unibet sponsorship and how this sport can potentially create uplift for the coming years.SBC: What are you looking forward to at Betting on Sports?MG: The opportunity to be part of another successful SBC event. I greatly enjoyed participating in BOFCON at Stamford Bridge and it will be an opportunity to attend more panel discussions and playing a fuller role in proceedings. It’s also a great opportunity to catch up with old faces, former work-mates and discuss the latest issues of the day. There is a great roll call of talented professionals in attendance and it’s likely to be the biggest SBC event thanks to the great work that the guys put in.SBC: Where can betting work together more closely with sport?MG: It’s a tricky question. Betting’s relationship with sport will always be slightly uneasy given that there should be a focus on youth development for each sport, particularly when it comes to international level. The English FA recently severing ties with betting companies illustrates that many sports governing bodies are trying to distance themselves from betting. The betting industry generally needs to take a more responsible attitude, although some operators have already started moving in this direction.SBC: What sports betting partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?MG: It’s clear that bookmakers are diversifying with the different sports that are seeing investment and sponsorship. Unibet were recently involved in the Giro d’Italia, while we have seen the same operator move into cricket sponsorship. I was also impressed by Unibet (again) and their sponsorship of Aston Villa’s shirt, especially the special markets that were created for the beginning of the football season. I enjoyed seeing Betfred sponsoring the World Snooker Championship again and they tend to do that particularly well if you visit the Crucible.SBC: Describe your perfect sporting eventMG: I enjoy a day of hospitality at the races, football or cricket like anyone else. However, I’m ultimately a grassroots football fan and love nothing better than following Tranmere Rovers on the road. At BOFCON, I could hot foot it to Aldershot on the train and watch Rovers in the National League play-offs. first_img The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) seeks fresh ideas, new innovations and modern customer experiences, to revamp the National Lottery.Last week, the UKGC confirmed that it was seeking bidders for its National Lottery 2023 concession, challenging current incumbent Camelot Group Plc, who have operated the lottery since its inception in 1994.To date, Camelot details that it has raised £38 billion for good causes, funding some of the UK biggest social projects and cultural directives – Team GB, the London 2012 Olympics, National Arts Council and The Heritage Fund. However, Camelot’s management of the lottery has come under parliamentary scrutiny. In 2017 a National Audit Office (NAO) report found that over a seven-year period in which ticket sales increased by 27% to £7 billion, Camelot had maintained ‘disproportionately’ increased profits of £72 million (up 127%), whilst returns for good causes only grew by 2% to £1.5 billion.Furthermore, last August the UKGC imposed a £1.5 million penalty on Camelot for various digital shortcomings, which saw the National Lottery app publish incomplete lotto results, draws and raffles prizes.Advised by the Public Accounts Committee, the UKGC is reported to want to restructure the framework for operating the National Lottery, shortening the licence, but allowing for more concessions to make necessary adjustments securing greater returns for good causes.Neil McArthur, Chief Executive of the UK Gambling Commission, said: “We believe there is significant untapped potential for growth whilst still retaining the principles of being responsible, safe and fair.“We are looking forward to meeting businesses, investors and interested parties over the next few months to help us to shape an exciting, fair and healthy competition which will take the UK National Lottery into a new era, and ensure it remains one of the biggest and best lotteries in the world.” Share Winning Post: Swedish regulator pushes back on ‘Storebror’ approach to deposit limits August 24, 2020 Camelot aims for ‘Big September’ supporting a high street recovery August 26, 2020 Related Articles UKGC launches fourth National Lottery licence competition August 28, 2020 Submit Share StumbleUponlast_img read more

first_img Related Articles Submit Gambling.com maintains momentum against COVID-19 impacts August 19, 2020 Betfred’s Gibraltar trading subsidiary ‘Petfre’ has been forced to pay £322,000 as part of a ‘regulatory settlement’ having been found to have ‘shortcomings in the application of its AML controls and its policies and procedures.’ The Gibraltar unit is due to make the payment in lieu of a financial penalty following an investigation by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).The UKGC investigation found that the ‘operator failed to carry out adequate source of funds checks on a customer who deposited £210,000, and lost £140,000, of stolen money in a 12-day period in November 2017.’ It was found that the customer was able to both deposit and lose significant amounts in a short period of time, which the UKGC highlighted ‘clearly indicated failings in the effectiveness of Petfre’s anti-money laundering policies and procedures.’ Under the terms of the regulatory settlement package, Petfre is due to pay its gross gambling yield of £140,000, received as a result of the player in question, which will be returned to the person whose money was stolen.Petfre will also make a payment in lieu of a financial penalty of £182,000, which the UKGC has confirmed will be directed towards the delivery of the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms. In addition to publishing a statement of facts following the investigation, the operator will also make a payment of £15,168.42 which will go towards the Commission’s investigative costs.Petfre has since accepted responsibility for the weaknesses in its AML proceedings, and has since taken steps to prevent further recurrences. The UKGC, in response to the investigation, outlined a number of considerations in order to determine an appropriate outcome.During the investigation, the regulator emphasised that ‘the breach arose not from the absence of AML policies but of a particular shortcoming in control measures for which remedial action has been undertaken’, with the incident in question noted to be an isolated event.
