Rohit (62), Kohli (60), Rayudu (40*).New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on Monday said that Virat Kohli’s India are teaching them a cricketing lesson in the ongoing five-match ODI series. Williamson’s Black Caps suffered their third straight defeat earlier in the day and conceded an unassailable 3-0 lead to the visitors in Mount Maunganui.Williamson lauded Ross Taylor and Tom Latham, who stitched a 119-run stand for the fourth wicket following his dismissal. Taylor missed out on a hundred by 7 runs and Latham by 49 runs but New Zealand managed only 243 as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The hosts managed to keep India’s wrecker-in-chief Kuldeep Yadav quiet but the likes of Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal and comeback man, Hardik Pandya came up with an all-round bowling effort.”They [India] are a very good side and they are teaching us a lesson. There are improvements today and we want to appreciate some of the lessons we have learnt from their side. We need early wickets to put pressure on the opposition.”advertisementIndia gunned down the 244-run target with seven overs and seven wickets to spare after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hit half-centuries each. Both the batsmen weren’t able to steer India past the finish line but Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik stitched an unbeaten 77-run stand after the quick dismissals of Rohit and Kohli. The ongoing series was expected to offer a stiff test to the Asian giants, who had reached New Zealand on the back of historic Test and ODI series wins in Australia. However, New Zealand have failed to live up to the reputation of ODI powerhouses as both their bowling and batting efforts look lackluster.Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will play no further part in the ongoing tour of New Zealand as the India captain has been rested for the remainder of the ODI series and the upcoming T20I series, starting February 6.Shedding light on a well-deserved break, Kohli said: ” I haven’t had a break for a long time. Mumbai: Digital platform ALTBalaji on Wednesday said the image of rocket used in the poster of their upcoming web series “M.O.M – Mission Over Mars” was taken for “representation purposes purely” as they were “legally bound” not to use actual pictures or details. The poster, released last week, featured what appears to be a Russian Soyuz launch vehicle with the Indian flag superimposed on it. ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan, on the other hand, was launched aboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket C25. Also Read – ‘Will be acting till I die’ According to ALTBalaji, the parties attached to the show decided to take a “fiction route” as a “strategic call”. “Our upcoming show is a fictional adaptation of the real life heroes at ISRO who worked on Mangalyaan and set a major milestone putting India firmly on the global map. However, as a strategic call taken by multiple parties, we have gone down the fiction route for this show. “Additionally, we are legally bound not to use actual names or images of either the people, objects or agencies involved. Keeping in mind our contractual obligations, publicity material of the show was designed,” a statement from ALTBalaji read. Also Read – ‘Always looking for that one great love’ “This imagery was taken for representation purposes purely, as a part of which, publicity material of the show has its own sensibilities to consider,” the statement further read. In a tweet last week, producer Ekta Kapoor had announced the launch of the show that revolves around the story of four women scientists who were involved in India’s Mars Orbiter Mission launched in 2013. Kapoor wrote she had decided to make the show two-and-half years ago when she chanced upon the “amazing story about women in Indian science.” “This show is on the women who sent the mission on Mars — partly fictional keeping in mind the sacrosanct nature of ISRO,” she wrote. According to her tweet, the show was being presented after “millions of meetings with ISRO” and would maintain a “certain amount of sacrosanct secrecy”. The series is “part-fiction, part real story” based on the achievements of all the women in Indian science, her tweet said. Actors Sakshi Tanwar, Mona Singh, Nidhi Singh and Palomi Ghosh star in the show.

Lahore: Pakistan will start a month-long visa process starting September 1 for the Sikh pilgrims from India and other countries who plans to attend the 550 birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak in November. The decision was taken on Wednesday by the Religious Tourism and Heritage Committee (RTHC) during a meeting chaired by Governor Chaudhry Sarwar at the Governor House. “Visa process for the Sikh pilgrims from India and other countries will start from September 1 and complete by September 30 in connection with 550 birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak on November 12,” Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince ‘snubbed’ Pak PM, recalled jet from US Talking to reporters at the Governors’ House, Sarwar said: “Pakistan will complete the Kartarpur Corridor Project by November regardless of India’s willingness to work on it or not. The Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan will be facilitated in every way.” He said the work on setting up a ‘tent city’ in Nankana Sahib would begin next week and funds had been provided for the completion of a road from Sucha Sauda to Nankana Sahib and work on the project would begin shortly. Also Read – Record number of 35 candidates in fray for SL Presidential polls Special shuttle service will be launched from the Wagah railway station to the birth place of Baba Guru Nanak. Pakistan and India are still discussing the modalities regarding opening of the corridor at Narowal, some 125-km from Lahore, for Indian Sikhs on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district and facilitate visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev. On Sunday, Pakistan said that they are committed to complete Kartarpur Corridor, despite tense ties with India. Tension between India and Pakistan has escalated after New Delhi revoked Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories on August 5. Reacting to India’s move on Kashmir, Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with New Delhi. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Special Assistant to the PM Firdous Ashiq Awan said that Kartarpur is a sacred place for Sikhs and is the perfect example of interfaith harmony. “Irrespective of India-Pakistan relations Pakistan’s doors are open to Sikh pilgrims visiting the Darbar Sahib Kartarpur,” Awan said on Sunday. The corridor will also be the first visa-free corridor between the two neighbours since their independence in 1947. Pakistan is building the corridor from the Indian border to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib while the other part from Dera Baba Nanak up to the border will be constructed by India.

RICHMOND, B.C. — The Transportation Safety Board says the capsizing of a tug at the mouth of the Fraser River in Vancouver shows the risks the industry faces because of a lack of awareness of the factors that led to the accident last year. The 19-metre-long George H. Ledcor was hauling a loaded gravel barge on the north arm of the river not far from the city’s airport when it capsized shortly after 10 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2018.The safety board says it has identified safety risks for the towing industry including informal work practices, insufficient training and a lack of knowledge about the effects of girding, which happens when a vessel is pulled broadside by a tow line force. The board says the girding and capsizing of the vessel happened quickly after there was an attempt to change the direction of a barge carrying more than 4,600 tonnes of gravel that was also being pushed by an assist tug.It says as the barge started to overtake the George H. Ledcor, the tow line exerted a broadside force on the tug and attempts to abort the tow were unsuccessful as it “rapidly” capsized. The four crew members on board were rescued from the vessel’s overturned hull, although the TSB says one deckhand suffered a serious injury to his hand as he attempted to climb onto the barge from the tug.“The investigation highlighted a number of risk factors, notably: if tug masters are not provided initial and recurrent training and if the towing industry continues to rely primarily on tug masters to manage girding hazards through shiphandling skills and informal practices, there is a continued risk that capsizings due to girding will occur,” the board says in a news release Wednesday. It says between 2005 and 2018, the TSB received reports of 26 girding situations, resulting in 21 capsizings. The TSB says the George H. Ledcor was equipped with three abort mechanisms, which are normally used in emergencies and quickly release the winch brake to take tension out of a tow line.It says the location, orientation and colour of the buttons to activate the abort mechanisms were different and the labels on them were obscured by other controls and switches. Since the capsizing, the board says Ledcor Resources and Transportation Inc. has taken a number of steps to reduce the likelihood of similar accidents. It has added procedures to its safety management system on how to recognize and avoid girding situations. Ledcor also introduced a voyage simulator and classroom training for its masters and mates and installed more standard abort mechanisms in common locations on its vessels. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 2, 2019.The Canadian Press

London: Unai Emery has challenged Denis Suarez to finally make an impact as Arsenal bid to climb back into the Premier League’s top four against Newcastle on Monday. Suarez has struggled since his January loan move from Barcelona and the Spanish midfielder is yet to make a competitive start for the Gunners. But a series of impressive displays at Arsenal’s recent training camp in Dubai could have earned the 25-year-old a chance to shine when Newcastle visit the Emirates Stadium. Also Read – Puducherry on top after 8-wkt win over ChandigarhSuarez played the full 90 minutes and created a goal for Carl Jenkinson in Arsenal 3-2 friendly victory over Al Nasr. With Granit Xhaka facing a late fitness test and Lucas Torreira suspended, Arsenal boss Emery is encouraged by Suarez’s timely improvement. “He is okay for starting in the first XI, to give us this impact,” Emery said. “We are going to need everybody, every player for the next matches. “We decided to go away to train for four days and play a match in Dubai. But it’s the same idea, the same spirit.” Also Read – Vijender’s next fight on Nov 22, opponent to be announced laterEmery was keen to work with Suarez again after signing on loan at Sevilla in 2014-15. Asked about the time it had taken Suarez to settle in north London, Emery added: “It’s normal. Now we have a lot of players ready, with a big mentality and with a big performance to play and help us.” Beating Newcastle would give Arsenal a 10th successive home league win, equalling a run they last enjoyed in the 1997-98 season in Arsene Wenger’s first full campaign as manager. A victory is essential after Arsenal dropped to fifth place on Saturday as a result of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Watford. Emery’s men are one point behind United and can’t afford to drop points as they battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League via a top four finish or winning the Europa League. With so much at stake, Emery is nervously monitoring Arsenal’s fitness updates. “We trained on Friday morning and some players were rested to give them one day more before training with us on Saturday,” Emery said. “That’s Aaron Ramsey, Dinos Mavropanos. But they can be okay and ready for Monday. “Xhaka also rested and we are going to wait for Saturday and Sunday. But the first previews from the doctor’s analysis is that they can be okay to play on Monday.” Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez has warned his players not to ease up as the inch closer to guaranteeing their safety. The Magpies are seven points above the bottom three and their 35-point total is just three short of the number Benitez believes will be enough to stay up. Newcastle have lost only one of their last six league games, but Benitez is taking nothing for granted. “If you see what Arsenal are doing, they are doing really well, so we cannot expect that it will be an easy game,” he said. “If we can do what we have to do and can get three points, then it depends on the others. But some of the other teams have got some points, so it’s not that you can say, ‘Now 37 is guaranteed’, it depends what they do. “We have now 35 and we are fine, but still we have to win. For me, one game could be enough, but you never know, it depends on the other teams. “The next game is the most important for us, it’s like a final for us and don’t think about what the others will do.”

11 November 2009The United Nations refugee agency has voiced regret at Djibouti’s forced repatriation of 40 Somali asylum-seekers, including 13 women and children, who were rescued by a Dutch ship in the Red Sea last month. “Based on both UNHCR’s evaluation of the situation in south Somalia as well as the interviews conducted with these individuals, it is clear that the 40 persons were in need of international protection,” the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said in a statement, in which it also thanked Djibouti for accepting its request to allow the group, numbering 43 in all, to disembark.“Djibouti has long enjoyed the reputation as a generous and welcoming host country for refugees and others in need of protection. This reputation risks being tarnished by the measures.” The group, mostly from Somalia’s strife-torn capital Mogadishu, landed in Djibouti on 4 November. They were then given medical and security screening by a joint team of officials from UNHCR and the National Refugee Agency of Djibouti (ONARS), followed by registration and protection interviews to asses their eventual protection needs.“It soon became clear that three males in the group expressed the wish to voluntarily return to Mogadishu,” UNHCR said. “However, according to the evidence collected by ONARS and UNHCR, 40 persons did not wish to return to Mogadishu due to the ongoing conflict there. This group included six women and seven children.”The whole group, including the 40 who wished to seek asylum in Djibouti, were repatriated on Monday and Tuesday. “For years, Djibouti has welcomed and offered protection and relief to thousands of refugees,” the agency said. “UNHCR recognizes the legitimate right of a host country in terms of national security. However, UNHCR is concerned by the forced repatriation to Mogadishu of the aforementioned group and the absence of appropriate guarantees for their safety.” read more
With the reconciliation process in Myanmar at a “pivotal” stage, substantive dialogue between the country’s authorities and opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is essential, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan says in a report released today. While welcoming the recent positive political momentum in Myanmar, the Secretary-General voices concern that it could dissipate unless some tangible progress is made in the near future.“It is my strong belief that the objectives of preserving stability and pressing ahead with much-needed reforms are mutually compatible,” he stresses. “While recognizing the Government’s desire to build a strong nation that can withstand challenges to its territorial integrity, history has proved that a system of governance is more stable and sustainable when it is flexible enough to accommodate diverse opinions and allow peaceful change.”Emphasizing that all-inclusive talks are necessary to ensure a smooth transition to democracy, Mr. Annan renews his appeal to Senior General Than Shwe, other leaders of the Government and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to set aside their differences, unite for the larger cause of national reconciliation and commence substantive dialogue as soon as possible. He also reiterates his call on the Government “to find ways to release quickly all the remaining political detainees and to relax evenly the remaining restrictions on the activities of the legal political parties.”The Secretary-General underscores the international willingness to assist in the transition process, but warns that it could falter without national support. “I remind the Government of Myanmar that the longer it delays in realizing its commitment to enter a substantive dialogue with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the harder it will become for the international community to provide a framework within which the process of national reconciliation can move naturally towards its logical conclusion.” he says. read more
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Ruud Lubbers held talks with high-ranking Pakistani officials in Islamabad today at the start of a visit to the region in which he will seek to solve the problem of an estimated 3 million Afghans still living in exile in Pakistan and Iran.During the meeting, Pakistan and UNHCR formally agreed to conduct a census next month of all Afghans who arrived in the country in the past 25 years, recording gender, ethnicity, address and source of livelihood, as well as whether they intend to return to their war-ravaged homeland in the next 12 months. This information will assist the Pakistani Government and UNHCR in developing policies for those Afghans who do not return home before the end of the agency’s voluntary assisted repatriation programme in March 2006.Tomorrow, Mr. Lubbers will travel to Afghanistan, where he is scheduled to meet with President Hamid Karzai and several ministers in the newly-appointed Afghan Cabinet. He will also travel to Herat and Kandahar, to visit an area where many newly-returned refugees are living, as well as a camp for internally displaced persons.More than 3.5 million Afghan refugees have returned home since the start of the voluntary repatriation programme in 2002 following decades of occupation and civil war in their country. The UN agency believes just under 1 million Afghans now remain in Iran, and another million are still living in refugee camps in Pakistan. An unknown but substantial number are also living in cities across the country. read more

OSU redshirt sophomore cornerback Marshon Lattimore (2) celebrates his interception with teammates during the spring game on April 16 at Ohio Stadium. Credit: Alexa Mavrogianis | Lantern photographerWhen the Ohio State depth chart came out on Tuesday, almost every Buckeye fan knew whose name would be beside the starting cornerback spot. Redshirt junior cornerback Gareon Conley played extensively last season and earned the respect of his peers and coaches. So much so, Conley is the lead cornerback coming into 2016.The naming was obvious, due to the seniority of the Massillon, Ohio, native. Conley has played in 28 games in his career, which is more than twice as many as the next most experienced cornerback. The competition for the second cornerback position between redshirt sophomore Marshon Lattimore and sophomore Denzel Ward was highly followed throughout spring camp for OSU. On more than one occasion, OSU coach Urban Meyer fielded questions from reporters during press conferences about who would be the man opposite Conley.Meyer has refrained from saying who would fill the void. The release of the 2016 depth chart provided no clarity to the question either, as both players were listed as possible starters.Predominantly, OSU is a team that thrives on the production of its starters. Meyer said, however, this year the team is enjoying a level of depth that allows for a change in philosophy.“I equate it to if you get a very, very good team with depth, it’s a little bit like those shifts in hockey,” Meyer said. “You go as hard as you possibly can, and then come out.”Meyer said that with quality players backing up starters at key positions, the Buckeyes can give more intensity for a shorter number of plays, rather than having to conserve energy over the course of the entire game. The idea behind the rotation is not unique to the secondary. Players at linebacker, defensive end and running back will all be rotating in-and-out for at least the first week of the season.Conley said he understands that the rotation is something different for an OSU football team, but he is confident in the ability of both Lattimore and Ward, as well as all other members of the team that will be interchanging against Bowling Green.“I feel like it doesn’t impact us,” Conley said. “The chemistry we have with our teammates — we hold them to a standard that is as if no one left last year.”As said by Meyer and other Buckeye coaches throughout spring drills, each member of the secondary brings a unique skill set to the field. Lattimore is known for his quickness and strength, whereas Ward is regarded as one of the fastest on the team.Even though rotating in key position players could negatively impact the productivity of the unit, the OSU coaching staff and Conley feel as though the players are ready to take on the challenge that comes with defending Bowling Green’s spread offense.“Our standard is so high that they have to come up with plays and be ready. Our culture is just — you gotta prepare every day like it’s a game,” Conley said. “I feel like our young guys are real focused and they have something to prove for themselves.”Conley and the rest of the OSU secondary will be put to the test against Bowling Green on Saturday at noon in Ohio Stadium. read more
L’Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), one of the world’s leading exporters of phosphates, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilisers, began constructing a phosphate pipeline in 2010, designed to deliver several grades of phosphate slurry to Jorf Lasfar’s terminal – a deep water commercial port located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The project, near Khouribga 200 km northwest of Marrakech, consists of a 187 km 36 in transportation pipeline, plus 37 km of 18 in and 20 in feeder lines, running to Jorf Lasfar’s terminal as well as Doui Pump Station, MEA Head Station, and Halasaa Pump Station, representing an investment of $433 million. Volvo rotating pipelayers are being used to perform the tie-ins (fusing two sections of pipe together), which are completed every 500 m, as well as lowering the entire pipeline into the trench. The pipelayers’ long booms make them the perfect candidate to accurately align the pieces so that they can be bolted together. The pipeline project was contracted to Turkish company, Tekfen Construction and Installation Co. On site Tekfen is using Volvo PL4608 pipe layers and Volvo EC210B excavators. The first job of the Volvo EC210B excavators was to hold and supply hydraulic flow to the pipe facing machines in preparation for welding. As phosphates are both corrosive and abrasive in nature, Tekfen have sub-contracted UPS-APTec, a joint venture between United Pipeline Systems and Allied Pipeline Technologies, two specialised pipeline contractors, to install a high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe liner system to avoid what could otherwise result in costly damage to the steel pipe, shortening its life span. The liner installation process begins once the length of pipe is buried in the ground. Sections of the high-density, polyethylene (HDPE) pipe are joined by heat fusion to create a continuous length of liner.Volvo excavators are used to raise the pipe from the ground into the trench and another one is used to handle and hold the special tool, which is needed to clamp and stretch the HDPE pipe to an exact length where it’s cut and the liner is effectively sucked back inside the host pipe. Finally, a polyethylene stub end is fused to the edge of each section and the flanges can then be bolted together. On completion an air test can be conducted to confirm a leak free, sealed system. The PL4608’s 360 degree upper structure swing enables the machine to re-position its boom, necessary to facilitate the tie-in process – something which is not possible with a traditional side boom pipe layer. The completion of this project will reduce OCP’s transportation costs considerably from the mine in Khouribga to the port off Morocco’s Atlantic coast. It will also reduce energy costs and the environmental impact associated with previous transportation handled by the region’s railway line. The feeder pipelines from each wash plant pump station will deliver sequential batches of slurry to segregated tanks at MEA’s Head Station. From there, successive phosphate loads will be pumped through the main pipeline into storage tanks at the port’s terminal. One slurry grade will be supplied to local acid plants but all of the grades will be supplied for export purposes. The facilities are currently designed to handle a total of 38 Mt/y with the possibility to increase it to 44 Mt/y in the future.

Should the religious orders involved pay compensation to the survivors of the Magdalene laundries?

Two Olympic greats will now stand next to each other again, as the statue of Greek legendary gold marathon runner Spyridon Louis is to be unveiled in a small City of Casey Council ceremony in the Melbourne suburb of Berwick. The statue of Spyros Louis, water-carrier and winner of the first modern Olympic marathon in 1896, will be installed on Friday 25 October, next to the statue of another legend of the same era, the first Australian Olympian Edwin Flack. The two Olympians and their countries’ national heroes ran side by side in the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Led by Mr Aristos Panagakis, the initiative for the statue erecting belongs to The Australian Hellenic Organisation in Support of the Olympic Spirit and Ideal. As Mr Panagakis told Neos Kosmos, the statue of Spyros Louis was completed last Tuesday. The statue, the work of sculptor Michael Pezaros, will be installed in High St, west of Gloucester Ave. “The statue of Edwin Flack in High Street was erected in 1996 as part of the Olympic centenary celebrations,” Mr Panagakis told Neos Kosmos. “The Spyros Louis statue was commissioned in 2011, to represent the Olympic spirit and friendship between Australian Olympian Edwin Flack and Greek Spyros Louis. “It doesn’t symbolise only Hellenism, it’s for the whole community,” he said. The statue was partially funded with a state government grant of $25,000 and by the Australian Hellenic Organisation itself. The statue, as Mr Panagakis revealed to Neos Kosmos, will depict Louis in traditional Greek costume as worn in the 1896 marathon and with an Olympic olive wreath. Mr Panagakis also announced that the bigger ceremony on the occasion of the erected statue will be held next year by the Australian Hellenic Organisation, with guests from Greece. The council function and the unveiling of the statue will be held on Friday 25 October, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. For more information, contact Aristos Panagakis, on 0418 946 217.
